A successful new school year depends on more than lesson plans and timetables. Behind the scenes, network services for schools provide the reliable connectivity and technology needed to support staff and pupils from their first day back.
That is why Simoda’s Network Services team uses the summer holidays to complete installations, upgrades and essential maintenance across school environments. With classrooms, corridors and communal spaces easier to access, our engineers can complete complex work with less disruption.
Summer also gives schools a valuable opportunity to review current challenges and plan for future technology. As a result, schools can start the new academic year with infrastructure designed around their needs.
Network projects often involve access to busy teaching spaces, offices and shared areas. During term time, that can make larger installations difficult to coordinate. However, the quieter summer period gives engineers greater access to the site.
Before starting a project, our team assesses how the school uses each space. We can then identify weak points, understand future plans and recommend a suitable approach. Therefore, the school receives a solution shaped around its site rather than a standard package.
Effective planning also brings several services together. For example, new cabling may support wireless access points, CCTV cameras, door access systems and classroom displays. By considering these requirements together, schools can build a more connected and manageable environment.
Structured cabling sits at the heart of dependable network services for schools. Ageing or inadequate cabling can restrict performance and make new technology harder to introduce. Therefore, upgrading the physical network can benefit both current operations and future projects.
During the holidays, Simoda can install new data points, upgrade network cabinets and replace legacy cabling. Depending on the site, this may include CAT6, CAT6A or fibre infrastructure.
The outcome is a stronger foundation for technology across classrooms, offices and shared spaces. In addition, the school gains infrastructure that can support more devices, cloud platforms and digital learning tools.
Reliable wireless connectivity is now essential in many school environments. Teachers and pupils need consistent access as they move between classrooms, corridors and communal areas. Yet older wireless networks may struggle with growing device numbers or changing site requirements.
Simoda can review existing coverage and identify slow connections, weak signals or Wi-Fi dead zones. We can then install and configure additional wireless access points where the school needs them.
Consequently, teachers can access digital resources with fewer interruptions. Pupils can also use laptops, tablets and other connected devices more consistently throughout the school day.
Moreover, a planned school Wi-Fi installation can support future growth. Schools can introduce new devices and learning platforms with greater confidence, rather than making repeated short-term changes.
Network services for schools can extend beyond connectivity. CCTV can help schools improve visibility across entrances, external spaces and other important parts of the site.
Existing cameras may offer limited coverage, especially after a building change or site expansion. Therefore, the summer provides a useful opportunity to review camera positions and address potential blind spots.
Simoda can design and install CCTV as part of the wider school network infrastructure. As a result, the school gains a more coordinated security system supported by the same underlying network.
Access control gives schools another way to manage physical security. Instead of relying entirely on traditional keys, schools can control entry to selected buildings, rooms and restricted areas.
Simoda installs and supports access control technology, including Paxton systems, within wider network projects. This approach gives the school greater control over access while reflecting the layout and requirements of its site.
Furthermore, schools can connect access control with other infrastructure improvements. This creates a more joined-up approach to connectivity and physical security.
Vape detection is an emerging addition to network services for schools. Simoda can install PoE-powered sensors that provide real-time vape detection, air quality monitoring and instant alerts.
These sensors can support areas where staff may find vaping difficult to identify, such as school toilets. When a sensor detects an incident, authorised staff receive an alert and can respond in line with school policy.
At the same time, air quality monitoring gives the school greater visibility of the environment in those spaces. Because the sensors use Power over Ethernet, they can form part of a wider connected infrastructure project.

Interactive displays and other audiovisual solutions play an important role in modern teaching. However, outdated equipment or unsuitable infrastructure can create frustration and interrupt lessons.
During the summer, Simoda can install or upgrade classroom technology before staff and pupils return. As a result, teachers get a more dependable setup that supports lesson delivery rather than becoming another obstacle.
The surrounding network also matters. For instance, displays and collaboration tools may rely on strong cabling and wireless connectivity. Therefore, planning audio visual upgrades alongside the network can create a better overall result.
A school project in Nottingham demonstrated the value of a coordinated approach. Simoda completed a full installation that brought together connectivity, security, classroom technology and network resilience.
The project included 100 CAT6A data points and 300 CAT6 installations. In addition, our engineers installed 45 wireless access points to support connectivity across the school.
The security element included 85 CCTV cameras and 10 Paxton-controlled doors. Meanwhile, 12 interactive teaching walls supported technology within the learning environment.
Simoda also installed fire suppression systems in the network racks and two 6kVA uninterruptible power supplies. Together, these measures helped protect the supporting infrastructure and improve resilience
Rather than treating each requirement as an isolated job, the project connected them through one delivery plan. As a result, the school gained an environment designed to support modern learning, site security, and performance at scale.
When pupils arrive in September, much of the technology supporting their school day should go unnoticed. Wireless connectivity should remain dependable, classroom equipment should work as expected and staff should focus on teaching rather than troubleshooting infrastructure.
That is the value of carrying out the right preparation during the summer. By using the quieter period to audit, improve and modernise their environments, schools can start the academic year with greater confidence.
While education is an important area of our work, Simoda’s Network Services team supports many sectors and environments. Quieter periods can give any organisation an opportunity to complete essential infrastructure work.
From structured cabling and wireless networks to CCTV, access control, vape detection and audio visual solutions, our engineers support projects of different sizes. Whether you need a focused upgrade or a complete installation, Simoda can help you plan the right approach.
