We see lots of new reports and white papers from many different vendors or technology partners and each one is valuable however when the UK NCSC report is launched we read with great interest.
What is it ?
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the UK’s authority on all thing’s cybersecurity in the UK and their annual review, which covered Sept 19-Aug 20, provides us with an indication of the state of security in the UK right now.
Some interesting highlights from the review included:
A record number of serious security incidents were handled, up 20% from 2019
Over a quarter of the incidents were related to the coronavirus pandemic
A 300% increase in ransomware incidents were handled, compared to 2019
3 million malicious emails were reported to their email reporting service
166,000 malicious websites were shut down over the course of the year
